Yorkshire Coast Tractor Run Hit By Storm

Storm Darragh has put paid to a festive fundraiser involving 150 tractors.

The Farmer Christmas Tractor Run has raised £24,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance over the last four years.

The vehicles were set to travel from Foxholes through Hunmanby, Rudston and neighbouring villages before returning to Foxholes on Sunday afternoon.

However, one of the organisers, Rob Scott, confirmed to This Is The Coast that it wasn't safe to go ahead:

"We are very sorry to say that due to the storm we have taken the decision to cancel the tractor run today.

"Months of preparation go into these events and it’s certainly not a decision we’ve taken lightly, but we have over 100 volunteers out on the route whose safety, along with spectators, is our priority. There are trees down all along the route, and although these can be moved it’s a clear reminder of the dangers to anybody venturing outside in this storm.

"We’re working hard to arrange an alternative date and will confirm this ASAP.

"Tractor drivers will receive an email to notify them of cancellation, but please do share this with anybody who you know is involved as a participant or planning to watch.

"Drivers will be able to keep their place for the rescheduled date (TBC), or if they cannot attend they will be refunded.

"Nobody is more disappointed than we are as organisers, but if we went ahead and even one injury happened it wouldn’t have been worthwhile. Risking the safety of volunteers and spectators would undermine the whole purpose of the event: to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

"Thank you for your understanding."
