Schools on the Yorkshire Coast are back open today without bubbles and without facemasks in the classroom but they are still needed on school buses and bubbles could return if COVID cases spike.
After 18 months of disruption due to COVID, pupils and teachers will be hoping for a more normal academic year.
But North Yorkshire Public Health Consultant Dr Victoria Turner says although just about all pupils can return to school, facemasks will still be needed in some situations.
Dr Victoria Turner says schools will still have a roll to play if there are COVID outbreaks, but says it's unlikely that any full closures will be needed.
