Anglo American is searching for its next group of Cyber Security Apprentices to help protect the mining company’s global operations.
Based at a purpose-built, state-of-the-art cyber classroom in Scarborough, the seven successful candidates will receive expert tuition, whilst being mentored by Anglo American’s cyber specialists from across the globe.
The new starters are part of Anglo American’s wider strategy to help establish a Cyber Security Cluster on the North Yorkshire coast that has seen the UK-headquartered company invest £97,000 in conjunction with Scarborough Borough Council and a host of other partners.
The new apprentices will join Anglo American’s 7 existing cyber apprentices in October 2023, taking the total number of cyber apprentices based at the Woodsmith Project to 14.
Craig McEwen, Chief Information Security Officer at Anglo American said:
“Anglo American has a sophisticated digital infrastructure that needs to be protected from a range of cyber threats, which continue to grow year on year,”
“This apprenticeship programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people in the region. It will be a challenging course for the candidates who will be operating at a high level, dealing with complex and fast-moving problems, but they will be mentored by a world class team from across the globe who will help ensure each apprentice has every opportunity to succeed.
“We’re looking for people with inquisitive minds, a good work ethic and an ability to commit themselves to the programme.”
Apprenticeship Delivery Specialist, Emily Fraser, added:
“Our decision to locate the cyber security apprenticeship programme in North Yorkshire demonstrates our continued commitment to helping establish a cyber cluster in the area.”
To be eligible to apply for the apprenticeship, candidates must be 18 or over by the end of the summer holidays in 2023, have at least three A Levels or level three equivalent and five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English (or an equivalent qualification).
Candidates must also not hold any other Level 4 (or above) qualifications in the cyber discipline.
An information event is being held at the Anglo American office in Scarborough on Thursday 20th October. For more information on this, the cyber apprenticeship scheme and how to apply, visit: https://uk.angloamerican.com/careers/cybersecurityapprenticeships
