The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice, starting at 18:00 today (Tuesday) and lasting until 12:00 tomorrow (Wednesday).
The warning covers East Riding of Yorkshire, Kingston upon Hull, North East Lincolnshire, and North Lincolnshire. The Met Office has assessed that this warning has a medium likelihood and a low impact.
Snow showers are expected to develop during Tuesday evening and continue overnight into Wednesday morning. In some places, there may be accumulations of 2-3 cm of snow and up to 10 cm over higher ground. Ice will readily form on untreated surfaces.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across the Yorkshire Coast, starting at 18:00 today (Tuesday) and lasting until 12:00 tomorrow (Wednesday). The warning predicts challenging travel conditions due to snow and ice.
The Met Office warns that:
Roads and railways are likely to be affected, leading to longer journey times for road, bus, and train services.
Icy patches are likely to form on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths, increasing the risk of slips and falls.
There is a possibility of short-term loss of power and other services.
The warning advises residents to take precautions such as:
Planning routes in advance and checking for road closures or delays to public transport.
Allowing extra time for journeys.
Packing essential items in vehicles in case of delays, including warm clothing, food, water, a blanket, a torch, an ice scraper/de-icer, a warning triangle, a high-visibility vest, and an in-car phone charger.
Using pavements along main roads, which are more likely to have been treated for ice, when walking.
Sticking to main roads when cycling.
The Met Office urges the public to stay up to date with the latest weather forecasts and warnings.
