Work to Start on Scarborough Athletic Fan Zone as Funding Arrives

Scarborough Athletic say they have now received a grant from the Premier League Development Fund for the creation of the new Fan Zone.

The fund aims to support eligible clubs to become more sustainable both on and off the pitch, providing the means to develop facilities that can increase current and future income.

The Fan Zone project will provide the opportunity for the club to have its first ‘owned and controlled’ area since it's formation, with an office, shop, storage and bar. The club will provide the extra funding needed for the project, most of which has been donated by supporters through the excellent fundraising of the Valley Bar Seadogs.

Funding was dependent on obtaining both planning permission and a lease for the land from the council.  With both these things now in place, the Premier League Development Fund were able to confirm the release of the grant this week.  As such, the club say they can now make a start on the Fan Zone. A new marquee has been ordered for the Victory Bar, as has the new club office.  The site is now being setup and preparation work for the new surface and fencing will start next week.

Boro say work on the new northern stands for away supporters is also imminent after design approval delays, caused by the sale of the company who are manufacturing the stands. These issues have now been resolved and the project is moving forward.

With Scarborough Athletics’ ongoing plans to improve the Flamingo Land Stadium, club Chairman Trevor Bull, said:

“We are thrilled to have received the Premier League funding for our Fan Zone project. With their support we are able to progress the club and improve the fan experience.

We are excited for the work to now begin imminently and we have a busy period ahead.  We are very grateful to the Premier League for providing us with the means to develop the stadium for our club, the fans and the town.

We are also thankful for the funds raised by the Valley Bar Seadogs, who have provided the club with the extra funding needed to complete the project. We thank them for their hard work and our generous supporters for their donations.  With the appeal nearing £16000, it really has been a magnificent effort.

We would also like to thank Scarborough Borough Council and Everyone Active, our stadium partners, for their support and help in the design and planning stages of the project.”
