Whitby ended their losing run with victory at neighbours Guisborough- Scarborough, Bridlington and Folkton & Flixton were also in action.
Fin Morris was the hero for Whitby as they won by eight wickets, at Guisborough, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One, on Saturday. Morris took 3 for 30 with the ball, with Ricky Hall picking up 2 for 38, as the hosts struggled to 144/8 from 50 overs. Morris then took over with the bat with Whitby floundering on 10/2. He put on an unbroken 135-run partnership with Joe Padmore (21 not out), smashing a 94-ball century as the visitors won with almost 20 overs to spare.
Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Scarborough, who lost by just eight runs at York's Clifton Alliance. The hosts batted first, but Scarborough's bowlers restricted them to 217/6. Former Zimbabwean international Piet Rinke impressed with 3 for 38 and Linden Gray added 2 for 52. In response, Pat Roberts' men lost regular wickets early on, collapsing to 52 for 5. Only teenager Breidyn Schaper (34) and Roberts himself (50) showed any resistance before the tail wagged late on. Rinke's 24 and Jack Holt's 36 helped Boro towards the penultimate over, where they looked favourites to win, but when Craig Nicoll trapped Roberts lbw and clean-bowled Romario Brathwaite for 17, in the space of three balls, the hosts sealed an unlikely victory.
Folkton and Flixton were also disappointed. They must have thought 275 for 9 from their 50 overs was more than enough to see off Sheriff Hutton Bridge seconds. Will Hutchinson made 64 and Harry Walmsley 54 as the home side set up another imposing total batting first. However, the visitors were stubborn and dug in to see out their 50 overs, finishing on 198/8 with Walmsley taking 4 for 59 and Tom Norman 2 for 25. The draw meant Sessay leapfrogged the Flixton side at the top of the York & District Premier Division.
Bridlington returned to the top of a tight Division One East, with a crushing 81-run win at Hull Zingari. By the time Brid were bowled out, midway through their final over, the visitors had amassed 256. Hosts Hull then slumped to 175 all out, with just under four overs left to survive. The victory saw Brid go back to the summit after second-placed Partrington were held to a draw at Beverley.
