Whitby Town Secure Safety With Fourth Straight Win

The Blues beat already-relegated Blyth Spartans on Easter Monday.

Gary Liddle's men were out of sorts in a quiet first half that the NPL Premier's basement side had the better of.

Liddle himself admitted his side "weren't really at it" in the first period.

Adding they improved after the break "but not that much".

"It wasn't the greatest spectacles", he said.

"It was probably two teams with nothing to play for."

Blues goalkeeper Shane Bland saved well low to his left with an outstretched leg from a solo effort in a largely-uneventful opening 45 minutes.

The news that Matlock were expected to get a three-point deduction thus saving Whitby from relegation lent the game an end-of-season feel.

Perhaps fittingly, it was ex-Spartan Mitch Curry who netted the only goal of the game, from an acute angle, on 69 minutes.

Curry scored for Blyth, against Whitby, in the Blues' 4-3 win, in Northumberland, on Boxing Day.

Whitby Town TV caught up with the marksman after full-time:
