Whitby Town Council is looking for four new councillors.
The roles are going to be filled by co-option rather than through elections.
There are two vacancies in the Stakesby Ward and one a piece in Abbey Ward and West Cliff Ward.
The council say..
"The role of town councillor offers the chance to make a huge difference to the quality of life for people in Whitby. Being an effective councillor requires both commitment and hard work. Councillors have to balance the needs and interests of residents, of partner organisations, businesses, visitors and the council.
The councillors' role centres around community leadership and engagement; responsibilities include:
- representing the ward for which they are elected
- decision-making - developing and reviewing council policy
- and statutory duties"
In order to be eligible for co-option as a Whitby Town Councillor you must be a British subject, or a citizen of the Commonwealth and be 18 years of age or over. You must additionally be able to meet one of the following qualifications:
- Be registered as a local government elector for the parish of Whitby,or
- During the whole of the twelve months preceding the date of co-option,occupied as owner or tenant, land or other premises in the parish of Whitby,or
- Had a principal or only place of work during those twelve months in the parish of Whitby,or
- Have during the whole of twelve months resided within 3 miles of the parish of Whitby.
Applications for the roles need to be submitted by Tuesday 23rd February 2021.
