Whitby Lifeboat was sent to rescue a vessel taking on water yesterday.
The volunteer crew were tasked to assist a 32ft yacht at 3:45pm. The vessel had propeller shaft problems and was taking on water 500 yards from the piers. As the vessels onboard pumps were keeping up with the influx of water they decided to tow the vessel to safety.

The Whitby and Staithes Coastguard teams maintained observations of the vessel whilst the RNLI ALB assisted the vessel with pumping water out and escorted them into Whitby Harbour. Coastguards met the vessel once alongside and ensured the crew were safe and well and that no further assistance was required.
Earlier in the afternoon the Coastguard teams were called out by Humber Coastguard Operations Centre in response to a call expressing concern for a swimmer opposite the Metropole at Whitby.
Prior to reaching the scene, it was confirmed that the swimmer had left the water, was safe and well and no assistance was required.
