Whitby Boxing Day Dip Goes Virtual

After being forced to cancel this year's boxing day dip because of COVID restrictions, Whitby Lions have come up with a cool alternative.

The annual Boxing Day dip in the town attracted over 200 dippers last year and raised over £14,000 for local good causes.

The Lions announced last month that they would not be able to stage the event this year because of COVID regulations, but now the Lions have come up with an alternative idea to stage a 'virtual' Boxing Day Dip.

The Lions say..

"We challenge you to take a virtual dip in an ice bucket style challenge while raising money for your chosen charity. We don’t mind how you do it – an ice bucket challenge, under the garden hose, in the kids’ paddling pool, the choice is yours, as long as you are using cold water, you get wet and you will have much more fun in Fancy Dress!

All you need to do is register for a sponsor form, you can register at the

Whitby Pet Shop, Station Square, Whitby or email whitby.lions.club@gmail.com and we will email one to you.

When you are doing your challenge on the 26th December, take a photo or even better a video and post it on this Facebook page or send it to us via email, to prove you completed your freezing challenge!

Don’t forget this can only be done with members of your household or support bubble and please observe any Covid-19 restrictions in place in your area on Boxing Day. Please also be safe when emerging yourself in cold water for an extended period and ensure someone will always be with you when you do the challenge. Please also note, that you undertake the challenge at your own risk.

100% of your sponsor money you raise can be donated to the charity of your choice. Please note that Whitby Lion’s are not making any money from this year’s virtual dip, if you wish to donate your fundraising to the club, we would be very grateful.

Please also note that participants will be responsible for collecting your pledged donation and then donating the money you raise to your chosen charity. Whitby Lion’s will not be responsible for this process."
