Humberside Police are warning about the dangers of Cannabis edibles.
Cannabis edibles are a fairly new form of drug, generally aimed at young people and teenagers.
Edibles are illegal in the UK. The products are usually available in the form of sweets, chocolates and drinks and are often well disguised.
They do not have the smell or appearance of cannabis. Instead, they look and smell like a shop bought item and available in many different forms, including cakes, sweets, chocolates and drinks.
They are extremely strong and laced with mood altering qualities and potentially fatal side effects.
Although cannabis edibles contain an element of Cannabis, they do not have the smell or appearance of cannabis. Instead, they look and smell like a normal branded shop bought item but are much stronger than other Cannabis products.
Due to the nature of the products, they can be particularly appealing to young people and teenagers.
Regular cannabis use can have an impact on brain development, heart health, memory and cognition and psychiatric health.
Long-term cannabis use can be especially concerning in teenagers, where it may increase the risk of mental health conditions, such as schizophrenia as well as having an adverse affect on learning and memory.
The Humberside force has produced a leaflet about cannabis edibles. The guide is aimed at for parents, guardians and young people. It includes information about spotting edibles and what to do if you suspect edibles have been ingested.
