Leaders in North Yorkshire are playing down the chances of the county being moved to Tier 1 COVID restrictions next week.
The COVID tiers will be reassessed next week.
The Government committed to reevaluating the tiering every two weeks. They are expected to make an announcement on Wednesday (December 16th) about whether or not there will be any changes to the tier classifications in each area of England.
Leaders in North Yorkshire are playing down the prospect of the county moving in to tier 1.
Richard Webb is from the local resilience Forum he says it's still unclear whether the decisions will be made based on county level data or at a more granular district/borough level.
North Yorkshire's Director of Public Health says he thinks it unlikely the county will move from tier 2 to tier 1
The COVID infection rates across North Yorkshire have fallen significantly in the last few weeks but do now appear to have plateaued in most districts.
There has also been a slight increase in the Scarborough Borough in the last few days.
Dr Lincoln Sargeant, was asked if he felt the county could move to tier 1 in the near future.
