North Yorkshire police say the recently launched Operation Snowstorm in Scarborough is having an impact.
The operation focuses on theft, anti-social behaviour, road safety and policing in the night-time economy.
Officers on patrol in the Town Centre on Sunday responded to a call from TK MAXX in relation to a suspected shop theft. Officers stopped two males on Westborough who had been followed by the CCTV cameras and have recovered items from their possession.
Officers said:
"The investigation started before the suspects were been booked in.
You may also have seen officers carrying out a search on a car linked to a theft on St Thomas Street in Scarborough on Friday. Information was passed via the Anti-Theft radio, which allowed officers to hone in on the vehicle. Whereas no stolen items were found, we now know who the occupants were and should CCTV evidence come to light, we will be knocking on their door."
Sergeant Jamie Lord of Scarborough's Neighbourhood Policing Team said.
"We are committed to working with our businesses to prevent theft and disrupt criminality within our town. Our proactive patrols have been instrumental to allow us to challenge behaviours and arrest thieves who not only live here, but those who travel here to commit offences.
We want our residents and visitors to feel safe, all year round."
