It's Shrove Tuesday and in Scarborough than means fancy dress pancake races and skipping on the foreshore.
Hundreds of local school children will be taking part in today's skipping action and dozens of teams have registered to take part in the fancy dress pancake day races on Aberdeen Walk organised by North Yorkshire Council.
Scarborough's Charter Mayor - Councillor Janet Jefferson - will be starting the event by ringing the pancake day bell.
In line with tradition in Scarborough, Pancake Day kicks off with the town crier introducing the mayor, who then rings the pancake bell on North Street at 12pm. Everyone then heads down to Aberdeen Walk for the races at the This is the Coast stage where Paddy will be hosting the event. After the racing its on to the Foreshore for the tradition of skipping by the seaside.
Teams taking part in the races will be competing in the fancy dress obstacle course race while flipping their pancakes. But who will win the golden frying pan? Janet Jefferson says the judges will assess speed, costumes and the amount of pancake they manage to keep in their frying pans.
There will be certificates and prizes for the runners up and of course the Golden Frying Pan for the winners along with a six month membership at Everyone Active.
Pancakes will be prepared by the hospitality and catering students at Scarborough TEC who are studying full time for a career in the industry.
Everyone Active are providing and manning the obstacle course. They are also providing a prize of an Everyone Active 6 month membership for both participants of the winning team.
