Local councillors have questioned the public's desire to create a town for Scarborough.
When the borough council is abolished next April, Scarborough will be one of just two parts of north Yorkshire not to have a parish level council.
A consultation asking local people if they would want to create a town council to fill that gap was due to end today but has now been extended by two weeks
County Councillor John Ritchie isn't convinced there is a public appetite for it
John says the last time a vote on introducing parish level councils in Scarborough took place, back in 2010, it was overwhelming rejected.
Borough Mayor, Councillor Eric Broadbent, isn't sure which way the public feeling will go on the idea:
County Councillor David Chance thinks a Town Council is needed.
County Councillor Subash Sharma is against the idea of a town council, he's concerned about local people having to pay more in council tax.
The process to collect views on whether Scarborough should have a town council is called a community governance review (CGR) which is open until 14 October, more details can be found at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/community-governance-reviews
