Three New Community Safety Booklets Launched for Filey and Eastfield

North Yorkshire Police, along with Fire and Rescue Service colleagues, have launched three new community safety booklets as part of Operation Cracker.

This is the third consecutive year that the Filey and Eastfield Police Neighbourhood Policing Team has issued these informative booklets. They have become a vital part of their strategy of delivering advice on a wide range of subjects, including home security, drugs and alcohol and safety in general.

The new booklets are:

  • ‘Springboard for Youth’ – designed to offer access to activities, training and advice to young people;
  • ‘Young Drivers – the Road to Safety’
  • and ‘Staying Safe in the Rural Community’.

Many local companies and partner agencies have supported the booklets over the years and in doing so are also supporting the police to connect with the community.

Inspector Andy Short, of Filey and Eastfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “As part of Operation Cracker we have, in collaboration with Scarborough Fire and Rescue Service, run numerous campaigns over the past three years which help to alert the public about important issues such as personal safety, and home security. But we hope that this booklets will be useful to the community, and act as an information source they can refer to at any time of year to obtain the advice they need on everything from protecting their cycle or car, to issues such as domestic violence and abuse.

“An important part of the job of the neighbourhood policing team is to protect vulnerable people in society who need our help.

“Although we intend to reach out to all age groups, we’re conscious that COVID-19 lockdown has challenged the lives of teenagers at a time when they’re usually becoming more independent and taking steps their future. Springboard for Youth will form an important part of the campaign.”

Graeme Casper, Station Manager based at Scarborough Fire Station, added:

“North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s collaboration with North Yorkshire Police to deliver Operation Cracker is an ideal opportunity to ensure our community is safe and feels safe in North Yorkshire.

“By working together, we can deliver the best services possible for residents, business owners and visitors to the county.

“During these worrying times it’s important to keep in touch with the community to offer support and advice where it is needed.”

The new booklets have been designed and produced with the support of Eastfield-based McCains Foods.

Jennifer Domett, Internal Communications Business Partner McCain Foods, said:

“After the success of Operation Cracker’s booklets created to support elderly people in areas such as fire safety and cyber security, we’re delighted to continue our partnership and broaden this offering out to a younger audience and people in rural communities.

“These new booklets provide information, advice and opportunities across a number of topics, such as employment, training, activities and safety. We’re proud to work on an initiative that offers care and guidance to the community – especially as we build back from the impacts of COVID-19.”

The booklets will be distributed by teams of police officers, police volunteers, Community Safety Officers and partner agencies to the Filey and Eastfield community through door-knocks, roadshows at garden centres and supermarkets, agricultural shows and local galas. They will also be distributed by partner agencies on their own community events and websites.

The campaign is scheduled to run from August 2021 through to February 2022.
