Successful Return to School in North Yorkshire

The return to school on the Yorkshire Coast this week appears to have gone well.

Primary Schools returned on Tuesday, Secondary schools have had staggered re-openings through the week.

Stuart Carlton is the director of young peoples services at North Yorkshire County Council, he says the priority foe the year is keep as many pupils in school as possible after 18 months of COVID disruption.

Health leaders in North Yorkshire say they have been pleased with the uptake of lateral flow testing at county's secondary schools this week.

Regular testing wont be conducted at schools this term but some has been done this week as pupils return for the first time since the summer break.

North Yorkshire's Director of Public Health, Louise Wallace, says she will be keeping an eye on the number of COVID cases in schools.
