Stinger Stops Scarborough Pursuit

Police used a stinger to stop a car in Scarborough after a cross border pursuit.

North Yorkshire polcie say officers from Humberside Police made contact via radio on Monday morning as one of their officers was following a MG car over the border, where the driver was displaying poor driving skills.

At just after 2:30am, Traffic Constable (TC) Walkey from North Yorkshire's roads Policing Team joined the Humberside officer on Filey Road in Scarborough, where they requested the vehicle to stop.

At 2:38am, the driver of the MG decided not to stop for TC Walkey resulting in a pursuit through the streets of Scarborough, finally entering the A171 attempting to reach Whitby. However, the Traffic Sarge had other ideas. TS Patterson made his way towards The Flask where he laid a bed of spikes as the pursuit headed his way. With three out of four tyres stung, the vehicle came to a stop.

The driver was arrested and requested to carry out a breath test. Blowing 52µg, with the legal limit being 35µg, the driver was required to make an evidential sample at Scarborough custody.

After blowing 44µg in custody, the driver, a 36-year-old man from Glaisdale has been charged to attend court at soon for:

  •  Driving over the prescribed limit
  •  Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence
  •  No insurance
  •  Dangerous driving
  •  Fail to stop
