A number of local events and sports fixtures have been called off following the death of the Queen on Thursday but others will go ahead.
Scarborough's Goldwings Light parade has been called off following the death of the Queen. The event was due to take place on Saturday and be followed by a fireworks display.
A joint message from the organisers of the Goldwings event and Scarborough Borough Council says:
“After careful discussion and consideration, we have decided to cancel the Goldwings event.
“Given the magnitude of yesterday’s news about the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it does not seem appropriate to go ahead with the event as planned.
“The nation is in shock and is mourning for the loss of a much loved Sovereign and it is important we pay our proper respects at this very sad time.”
It's one of a number of events to be cancelled this weekend.
Eden Camp say that their All Services Parade due to take place on Sunday has been cancelled.
The Museum team say
"The All Services Parade is a commemoration of the people who have fought for our country’s freedom, and this includes her Majesty. As we join the nation in mourning, we thought it right to cancel such an event of military service and wait for a better suited time."
The Museum will continue to operate as normal on the day. Those who have confirmed attendance to be a part of the parade will be notified by email, and anyone who has booked tickets online to enjoy the day are welcome to visit the museum as normal or request a transfer to the new date of the parade.
The organisers of the Super Soapbox Challenge due to take place in Bridlington this weekend have also called off the event.
Yorkshire Coast Bid have taken the decision to postpone the event, which was scheduled for this Sunday 11th September, as a mark of respect.
The BID team say:
"We are going to proceed with rescheduling the event when we have full sight of the necessary protocols and made all of the necessary arrangements and will update in due course.
From all of us at Yorkshire Coast BID, we offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family over this difficult time."
Football fixtures this weekend have been postponed, Scarborough Athletic's game against Kidderminster at the Flamingo Land Stadium has been called off along with games in the EFL and Premiership.
Bridlington Town's FA Trophy game against Colne is also off, as is Whitby Town's FA Cup clash with Warrington.
The Football Association say:
"Her Majesty the Queen was a long-standing Patron of The Football Association and has left a lasting and indelible legacy on our national game.
As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, English football has united to postpone all football fixtures between 9-11 September.
The FA can confirm that all football fixtures across the Barclays Women’s Super League, Barclays Women’s Championship, the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, and the Isuzu FA Trophy, will be postponed this weekend.
We can also confirm that all football fixtures across the National League System [NLS], Steps 1-6, including the Vanarama National Leagues, the Women’s Football Pyramid [WFP], Tiers 3-7, and matches across grassroots football in England will be postponed.
The Premier League and the EFL have all confirmed that their fixtures this weekend will be rescheduled for a later date."
Organisers of a Parkinson's Awareness Walk due to take place a week on Saturday have also said they will be postponing the event.
The organisers say:
"As a mark of respect to the royal family with the sad passing of Her Majesty The Queen we have taken the decision to postpone the Parkinson’s awareness walk in Peasholm Park on Saturday 17th September 2022. A new date will be announced in due course."
However the Government guidance on the period of national mourning says there's no requirement for events to be postponed or for entertainment venues to close and a number of events are going ahead.
The ECB have said that Cricket will resume on Saturday after play was cancelled on Friday. The ECB say:
"Cricket will resume on Saturday to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and honour her remarkable life and service.
Following the cancellation of Friday’s cricket fixtures as a mark of respect on announcement of her death, the England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that play will resume from Saturday including international, domestic, and recreational fixtures. The decision has been taken after consultation with DCMS and in line with Official National Mourning guidance.
This means the Men’s Test match between England and South Africa will begin at The Oval and the Women’s IT20 match between England and India will also go ahead at the Riverside in Durham. The scheduled match between England and Sri Lanka Men’s U19 along with recreational cricket fixtures will also take place as planned.
Before each match, a minute’s silence will be observed followed by the national anthem. All players and coaches will wear black armbands."
The Scarborough Beckett Cricket League have confirmed that local matches will be going ahead this weekend, they say that the Umpires will lead a two minute silence, in respect of HM Queen Elizabeth II, prior to the matches.
Scarborough Rugby Union Club say their Game at Malton will go ahead on Saturday following guidance from the RFU, and Sunday morning's Junior rugby training will continue as planned.
Scarborough Spa say tonight's Endless Love show will go ahead, they say:
"We can confirm that tonight’s show will still be taking place.
Prior to the performance there will be a moment of silence as a mark of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II"
Bridlington Spa have also confirmed that their events will go ahead as planned.
The organisers of Whitby's Cinder Track Park Run say the event will continue this weekend, they say:
"After a careful discussion with our volunteers and with permission of our landowners, we can confirm that our event WILL go ahead tomorrow morning as usual.
We will pay our respects to the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we hope to welcome any participants who wish to attend"
The Land Stone Art Festival in Bridlington will be going ahead as will Heritage Open Day in Hunmanby, the Skydiving National Championships in Accuracy are also continuing in Bridlington.
