
An increase in demand for the 999 service is partly due to automatic emergency calls from smart phones and watches.
The number of 999 calls being made to the police and other emergency services in North Yorkshire is continuing to increase putting additional pressure on the control rooms.
Mark Pannone is North Yorkshire's Assistant Chief Constable he says the number of inappropriate calls is not helping.
The increase in calls has been seen by Police forces across the country over the last few months. North Yorkshire is no different and the county's assistant chief Constable, Mark Pannone says while there are a number of inappropriate calls received each week there are other factors at play as well including a safety feature built into to the latest smart phones and watches.
