Bridlington Town will be hoping their bad form will come to an end, when they travel to league leaders Belper Town this afternoon following a two-week layoff.
It’s been four consecutive losses for Adrian Costello’s side, of which included a defeat in the reverse fixture against Belper Town. That game, which was rearranged due to both teams having a free weekend, saw Belper take all three points back to Derbyshire in a 5-1 victory.
The two-week break comes after Brighouse Town, whom Bridlington were scheduled to host on 7th October, progressed in the FA Trophy and as such will now travel to Ashton United instead.
Similarly, Belper will go into the game having had two weeks off, as their game against Stocksbridge Park Steels has been postponed, again due to FA Trophy commitments for their opponents.
Having won all four away matches so far this season, Belper sit top-of-the-table on 18 points after 8 games. The only criticism of the Nailers season so far would be their form at home, having lost two of their four league games on home soil, as well as two cup defeats.
For Bridlington Town, though, away from home has been where the problems primarily lie, as they have lost every away game so far in all competitions, picking up all seven points at Queensgate.
The trend continued in their last fixture against Sheffield FC, despite taking the lead after 12 minutes a goal on the stroke of half time brought the scores level at the interval. Two goals in the final ten minutes of the game saw the hosts win 3-1.
Lewis Dennison netted the Bridlington Town goal, having also scored in the 5-1 loss against Belper Town. The striker will now aim to build on his first two goals of the season to restore his prolific form of last campaign
The Sheffield loss saw the Seasiders fall to 18th position, just one point and one place above the relegation zone.
A return may be on the cards for Matty Dixon, whom Costello said would be a couple of weeks away after the Cleethorpes game on 23rd September, following his spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.
The Bridlington Town gaffer will no doubt be happy to see such a crucial player return should he be deemed fit enough.
Andy Norfolk, Cam Cunningham and Alex Markham all returned from various different layoffs against Sheffield, the trio making substitute appearances.
Benn Lewis missed the Sheffield game due to illness, and is expected to return for Bridlington Town’s trip to Derbyshire.
