Seasiders Celebrate FA Cup Victory

Mike Thompson’s first competitive game in charge of Bridlington Town saw his side breeze past Whitley Bay.

The hosts started the game strongly, putting relentless pressure on Whitley Bay, and got their reward after 21 minutes. Jack Yates did excellently to win the ball back by the left hand corner flag and crossed the ball into the box. With Andy Norfolk lurking, Whitley skipper Michael Hall headed the ball into his own net.

Bridlington then doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark, with star-man Yates picking up the ball on the edge of the area. His strike took an awkward bounce to deceive Dan Lister in the visitors’ goal. This took Bridlington into the break with a comfortable lead, in a half in which they dominated, playing some lovely football.

With just under an hour played, Lewis Dennison was able to scramble the ball home following a Bridlington corner to give his side a 3-0 lead.

Whitley Bay soon pulled one back however, as just five minutes later referee George Roberts awarded them a penalty for a Will Sutton handball. Up stepped Malcolm Morien, who fired the ball straight down the middle.

The Seasiders didn’t let Whitley’s goal affect them though, as they saw the game out to progress through to the preliminary round of the FA Cup, in which they face Dunston at home on Saturday 20th August
