Scarborough continued their improved form with a 132-run victory over Castleford, on Saturday.
Batting first, in bright sunshine, at North Marine Road, Scarborough posted 257 for six from their 50 overs. Breidyn Schaper top-scored with 81 and he received strong support from opener Cian Dickinson (55) and all-rounder Ben Elvidge (50). Yorkshire Premier North table-toppers Castleford were immediately in trouble as James Wainman's three wickets and one from reduced them to 19 for 4 in reply. They never recovered and were bowled out in 32 overs for just 125. Wainman took 3 for 15, Elvidge 3 for 16 and Linden Gray 2 for 35.
In the York & District Premier Division, Folkton and Flixton posted a very-competitive 279 from their 50 overs at York seconds. Skipper Tom Norman top-scored with 105 and Will Hutchinson hit 76 from 79 balls. Connor Stephenson's useful cameo contributed 28 runs from just 11 balls. It looked like it might be straight-forward as the hosts stumbled to 12 for 1 with Stephenson striking early. But they recovered and it went to the final over of the match. Richard Malthouse impressed with 5 for 47 as the bowlers held their nerve and York finished five runs short but retained their final wicket as the villagers took a narrow winning draw.
Bridlington thumped Hornsea, at Dukes Park, to stay top of Division One East. Russell and Richard Robinson took three wickets each as the visitors were dismissed for 178 in the final over. Brid then eased to their target, inside 21 overs, losing just two wickets along the way. Casey Rudd clobbered 49 from just 29 balls and Russell Robinson finished unbeaten on 42.
Whitby suffered a fourth-successive defeat, at the Turnbull Ground, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One. Batting first, Kai Morris' men lost wickets regularly, from 2 for 2, they staggered to 28 for 4 and 31 for 5. In-form Paul Buck top-scored with 39 and there was some lower-order resistance when Steve Allen (31 not out) and the recalled Mark Jackson (15) put on 44 for the ninth wicket, but they were still dismissed for 147. Visitors Richmondshire Seconds started strongly, building to 42 without in loss in the opening ten overs. However, Whitby had hope as Morris and brother Fin took two wickets each and the evergreen Ricky Hall weighed in with one with Richmond now 68 for 5. However, that was as close as Whitby came to victory as the Sam Winter and Jake Percival put on an unbeaten 81 to take their side home with nine overs remaining.
