The Rotary Club and Salvation Army have launched their annual Toy Appeal in the Borough.
The organisations say the COVID situation means the logistics of operating the scheme this year are more difficult than usual but they are seeing an increased level of support from local businesses.
The project sees presents collected and delivered to vulnerable children across the Borough.
It started nine years ago with three hundred toys - since it launched to project has delivered 13,000 toys.
Organiser Nigel Wood says a number of local business have decided to make the appeal their Christmas project.
With the current lockdown rules, which are in place until December 2nd, stating that people must "Stay at home, except for specific purposes.", dropping off presents at collection points has become more difficult this year. The organisers hope that the support of local business will help to ensure that toys are collected ahead of their annual toy service on December 6th.
In a Facebook post Scarborough Rotary club say
It has been a tough year for many people.Compounded by Covid 19 ,many families are really struggling to make ends meet ,let alone contemplate Christmas. We are pleased again to support the annual Christmas Toy appeal here in Scarborough and hopefully ,with your help ,we’ll enable as many young people as possible to get a toy this year.Young children shouldn’t be subjected to the physiological and physical issues of an adult world but alas they are.We must try our best to give them some semblance of a happy Christmas.Together we can make a difference.Thank you.
