Scarborough Youngster Raises Hundreds of Pounds for Saint Catherine’s

A kind-hearted Scarborough youngster has raised hundreds of pounds for good causes while facing challenges of his own.

Nine-year-old Issac Brown, who has cerebral palsy, had been growing his hair for two years when he saw a programme about the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs for children who lose their hair during cancer treatment.

Issac, wanted to help, so his dad set up a Just Giving page and Issac did a sponsored haircut, donating his hair and raising an incredible £712 for the charity.

With lots more people wanting to sponsor him, Issac and his nan set up a fundraising page for Saint Catherine’s, which raised a further £450.

Issac said:

“Saint Catherine’s looked after my great nannie Catherine in the final weeks of her life in April this year and my family has told me about the amazing work the hospice does in caring for people and how much money it costs.”

“I have spent my own fair share of time in hospital following two major surgeries required due to me having cerebral palsy. I have always been really well looked after in hospital and by my local physios, occupational therapists and consultants.”

Issac had major surgery in July and spent a number of weeks in a cast. He is now on the long road to recovery, with help from his sister Lilly, mum Lauren and dad Jordan. He is getting back to his hobbies of football, Lego, games and technology, and is also a Cub Scout.

Issac and his friends love his new look and wanted to thank Caz from Caz’s Barbers in Castle Road, who kindly cut his hair for free and donated, along with her customers, to the hospice.

He added:

“I hope to do another fundraiser for the hospice with my family when my legs are better and more mobile.”

Susan Stephenson, communications and marketing manager at Saint Catherine’s, said:

“We were all blown away by Issac’s story. For him to raise so much money and be thinking of others while facing his own challenges is a very special thing indeed. And to be thinking of his next fundraiser already – what an incredible young man. Thank you Issac on behalf of everyone at Saint Catherine’s. You are an inspiration.”
