Scarborough Women's Refuge Project Slowed by Inflation

A long planned Women's Refuge in Scarborough will go ahead, but is unlikely to be completed before the Borough Council is abolished next April.

The plan was first proposed in 2015 but stalled until in 2019 the council agreed to sell land to developer -  Beyond Housing - for the project.

Planning permission for the development was approved in June this year.

Project Director Richard Bradley says that sale will go ahead but the build itself has suffered delays.

Project Director - Richard Bradley - says high inflation in the cost of building materials has delayed the build.

The facility will provide a refuge in Scarborough for women escaping violence in the home, the area has the highest domestic violence rate in North Yorkshire.
