Scarborough Traffic Lights Work This Week

The lights will replace a mini-roundabout.

Safety improvements began in October to replace the mini-roundabout at the Stoney Haggs Road/Scarborough Road/Pasture Lane junction with traffic lights.

However, work had to be postponed after there were delays in receiving the new traffic signal equipment due to lockdown affecting the supply chain.

North Yorkshire County Council’s highways team will now be installing the new traffic lights on weekdays this week.

Surfacing and lining works will then take place from 7pm to 3am on weekdays during the week commencing February 1. The junction will be closed to traffic during these times with a diversion in place. Pasture Lane will remain closed until all works are complete.

County Councillor David Jeffels, local member for Seamer, said:

“It’s great to hear that our contractors can return to the site and finish off the works. Unfortunately the delay was out of our hands with many companies struggling to access materials during the pandemic. I’m a long-standing campaigner for safety improvements at the crossroads so this scheme is very welcome in the village.”

County Councillor Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Access, added: “I would like to thank the public for their patience over the last few months. We are now undertaking the surfacing and lining works overnight to minimise disruption. The delivery of the scheme will have significant safety benefits for pedestrians, due to new pedestrian crossings, as well as drivers.”
