Scarborough to Holland Yacht Race Starts Tonight

Scarborough Yacht Clubs annual North Sea Race takes place this weekend.

16 boats will be setting off from Scarborough harbour at 7pm tonight heading for the Dutch Coast.

The race is expected to take around 40 hours to complete.

Tom Hill is Vice-Commodore at the Yacht club, he says it's a big event for the club.

The competitors will race from Scarborough to Ijmuiden in Holland.

Tom Hill says the start of the race from Scarborough Harbour should prove to be quite a spectacle.

The competitors have a gruelling weekend ahead of them as they race to the Dutch coast, Tom says there are a number of challenges to overcome.

Tom says most competitors will be aiming to complete the race in around 40 hours but says how long it actually takes will depend on the wind.

The event has been sponsored by local retailer Boyes, Tom says their support has helped to keep the race going for a number of years.

Summer is a busy time for Scarborough Yacht club, Tom says they have more racing next weekend and further events through the summer season.

Live tracking of the competitors progress is possible using the Yacht Club's live tracking web page at https://cf.yb.tl/sycnsr2023
