Scarborough Surf Festival Returns for 2021

After an enforced year off because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Surf Festival returns to Scarborough’s North Bay next month.

It takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 9 October on the prom near the Freddie statue.

For people new to surfing, taster lessons will be available courtesy of Dexter’s Surf Shop and for anyone worried about getting their toes wet, there will be chances to have a go on a surf simulator from the safety of dry land.

For more experienced surfers, there will be a competition organised by Cayton Bay Surf Shop and Coastal Concepts.

Out of the water, there will be sand art and beach yoga led by the team from Happy Seal Yoga.  For anyone feeling community-spirited they can also help with a beach litter pick.

There will also be stands selling food and drink.  After dark, Taylors Bar will host a special event featuring live music from the Jim Taylor Acoustic Duo.

Councillor Jim Grieve, cabinet member for the quality of life, said:

“It’s great news that the surf festival can go ahead as normal this year.

“We already know the Yorkshire coast is a draw for people who enjoy adventure water sports, including surfing.

“The festival is designed to appeal to confident surfers as well as anyone who is new to the water and wants to give surfing a go for the first time.

“And, if you’d rather admire someone else’s board skills from dry land, the surf competition will be of interest.”
