Daily water quality ratings will be available for some, but not all, of the Yorkshire Coast's beaches this summer.
The Environment Agency say they are able to make daily predictions for a number of local beaches on their Swimfo website but other beaches, such as Scarborough South Bay, wont feature on the site.
Bathing Water Technical Specialist, Claire Campbell explains:
The water quality at Scarborough’s South Bay is rated as “poor” on the Environment Agency’s Swimfo website which has also issued “advice against bathing" but the agency has reiterate that is just advice.
In a report to North Yorkshire councillors Claire Campbell said the advice is based on scientific study of water quality samples from the South Bay, but says it is down to individuals whether or not they enter the water.
