The Scarborough skipper taking part in the Golden Globe round the yacht race has logged the 24 hour distance record this week.
Guy Waites sailed more miles in 24 hours than anyone else in the fleet.
Guy is desperately trying to get to the cut off point in Hobart before the January 31st deadline, after a barnacle infestation slowed his progress before Christmas.
Since removing the barnacles in port at Cape town, Guy says he is making much better progress.
Of the nine remaining sailors, Guy is currently in last place, playing catchup after his slow progress due tot he barnacles.
Guy has until the end of the month to reach the stage cut off point in Hobart in Tasmania, he says getting there on time is going to be close.
