Scarborough's Neighbourhood Policing Team have been delivering a programme of community engagement activities.
Local officers from Scarborough have been hosting engagement events to give out advice to residents and visitors to the town on a number of different topics.
Town Centre Sergeant Heather Standing says the events have been running since the end of the summer and the team is looking forward to more events on the run up to Christmas.
Sergeant Standing said
"Engagement with our communities is a key part of our priorities and by coming in to the street, we are making it easier for people to speak to us. We want our retailers and our residents to feel safer, knowing we are here and people can come to speak to us."
The previous events throughout the end of summer have been raising awareness to services such as the Community Messenger, a free scheme, where Police can send messages to businesses and residents in the county, to offer advice and appeal for information. Burglary advice, staying safe on nights out and safe shopping has also been provided.
Acting Police Sergeant Jon Dillon has also been at events, speaking about the CAP scheme which was launched at the start of summer, to target underage drinking in the county. In Scarborough, the Community Impact Team have been working with retailers, schools and youth groups to educate young people as to the dangers of excessive alcohol, the impact on the community and criminal implications which may be associated with anti-social behaviour.
Acting Sergeant Dillon said
"This is a great display of partnership working, we have so much support from partner agencies and we have been overwhelmed with the participation from the retailers, challenging underage drinkers and those suspected to be purchasing for young people."
The scheme was introduced to residents in Scarborough in the summer, when surveys were completed and we were given our expectations from our community.
