Scarborough's Marie Curie Fundraising Group are planning a workplace dash next month to help celebrate the organisations 75th anniversary.
Local organiser - Amelia Forrest - says they are looking for local firms to get involved in the Workplace Dash which is taking place on Tuesday November 7th.
As part of the celebrations, businesses are encouraged to raise £75 on or before 7th November 2023, which would have been Marie Curie’s 156th Birthday.
On that day the charity’s mascot ‘Daffy’ will dash around the town visiting as many of the workplaces as it can taking part, to collect the funds raised.
Companies can pay to wear yellow for the day, have a cake sale or hold a raffle to raise money, with the funds going towards supporting patients and families living with a terminal illness.
Amelia says that a number of local firms have already signed up for the event including Lloyds Bank.
"It is great that Lloyds Bank have signed up already and I look forward to more businesses getting involved.
“75 years ago our first fundraiser was the sale of an engagement ring, and that was the start of Marie Curie delivering expert care and support to patients who are living with a terminal illness.
“We couldn’t continue to do that without our amazing supporters, and we hope organisations in Scarborough will get behind the birthday celebrations and help us raise vital funds.”
Amelia says the fundraising event comes as the Scarborough group reforms and looks for new volunteers.

The Scarborough Fundraising Group for Marie Curie has been running since 1998 and has since raised over £130,000 for the charity. Sadly, the group closed last year but the charity is keen to relaunch it.
Marie Curie Community Fundraiser for Scarborough, Amelia Forrest said: “Our group members make a difference locally by helping to raise the vital funds needed to support Marie Curie Nurses, who provide free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes.
“We were really sad to have to close the group as the previous members have done a fabulous job with running a Burns Night and various other events for us. We are very grateful to them.
“We are now looking to the future and hoping we have some volunteers come forward to relaunch the group.”
Marie Curie Fundraising Groups promote fundraising within the local community by organising fundraising activities and collections, encouraging new volunteers to help the charity, as well as supporting Marie Curie’s major fundraising campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal and Blooming Great Tea Party.
All money raised by the Scarborough Fundraising Group will help Marie Curie provide expert care, guidance and support to help people with a terminal illness, and their families, get the most from the time they have left.
Amelia added:
“Locally, Marie Curie Nurses work night and day, in people’s homes across Scarborough providing hands-on care and vital emotional support.
“Anyone who can give up some spare time can make a difference by helping us to raise the vital funds needed to support Marie Curie nurses, who provide free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes, as well as the Marie Curie hospices.
“Volunteering is not only a great way of giving something back to the community, it’s also a chance to meet new people and make new friends.”
Marie Curie also supports people throughout their illness by giving practical information, support from trained helper volunteers and being there when someone wants to talk. The charity is also the leader in research into better ways of caring for people with terminal illness.
