Two local marathon runners are close to raising £100k for Cancer Research UK.
Brett McMann and Neil Fitzpatrick have run 12 marathons between them in the last 8 years, raising £94k in the process.
Neil says there is now more work to do to make sure they hit their target.
The two Scarborough Marathon runners are now just 6 thousand pounds away from reaching their target.
Neil says it's a very personal challenge for them.
Brett and Neil completed the Humber Half Marathon in 2016, the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon twice (October 2016 and 2018) and the London Marathon twice (April 2017 and 2018). Neil then completed London and York Marathons again in 2021.
The pair have just completed the 2022 Paris Marathon.
The fundraising is part of the Apart project, which has now raised over £94,000 for Cancer Research UK in just over 8 years, it was established in 2014 when Neil lost a friend, his mother-in-law, his Dad and sister-in-law to cancer in the space of a few years.
He wrote and released a song, called Apart, inspired by the loss he'd experienced, which was the basis for the Apart Project. Sales from the song raised in excess of £14,000, with the annual Apart Ball, donations and the efforts of other supporters bringing the total to date to a whopping £94,000.
