A team of volunteers in Scarborough who have made over 3000 sets of scrubs for the NHS and other care providers during lockdown are to receive a special commendation from the Borough's Mayor.
The Scarborough Scrub Makers - Love of Scrubs group formed in March as the nation entered lockdown, in an effort to help produce scrubs and other useful items for the NHS.
400 volunteers and 200 sewers have worked tirelessly since then to source material, produce designs, sew the items and get them delivered to local hospitals, care homes and GP practices.
Last night at a special meeting of the Scarborough Cavaliers Rotary club, Borough Mayor, Councillor Hazel Lynskey announced that the group are one of 71 groups and individuals to receive a special Mayors Thanks Award.
Charlotte Hill set up the group, she explained how it came about.
In Scarborough the support for the group has been really strong, Charlotte says she was overwhelmed by the number of volunteers who came forwards.
Iona Calvert turned her house in to a hub for the project, receiving materials and send them out to the sewers. She explained just what they have been able to produce.
The Mayor of Scarborough Borough, Councillor Hazel Lynskey, says the group will receive a special commendation for their efforts.
