Scarborough Kingfishers Conquer Monster LOCH NESS Challenge!

The Scarborough-based swimming club took part in what's thought to be the first ever 5-person 2-way relay of the entire length of the world famous loch.

The Kingfishers Open Water 2-Way Loch Ness Team have completed their swim in 26hrs 48 mins 4secs (to be officially ratified by the BLDSA).

The hire of the boat required to support the challenge cost the group £4,000 and they needed an additional £800 during the event. This was covered by the Our Co charity in Scarborough.

Paul Ambury from the club told This Is The Coast:

"It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to help bring this swim to its conclusion. The idea was born 3 years ago and has overcome so many obstacles including the pandemic, personal for many and don’t get me started on logistics! The team of Georgia, Maddy, Colleen, Bill and Jane and my trusty girl Robyn has evolved so many times and the 5 left standing after our little pocket rocket got hurt 2 weeks ago are all amazing individuals and are right now tired, sore but absolutely ecstatic. Stewart Griffiths went above and beyond to help us achieve our dream and I cannot recommend him highly enough for his piloting services. We are very grateful to Veronica at Our Co for their support too".

Loch Ness is around 23 miles long and covers an area of 700 square miles. It reaches depths of 788ft and is linked to sightings of a mystical creature of the deep: the Loch Ness Monster.

Well done to the swimmers on completing their monster challenge!
