Scarborough Hosts Biggest Armed Forces Day in Yorkshire

Scarborough hosts the largest armed forces day event in Yorkshire for 2024 on Saturday.

Queen Camilla thanked servicemen and women for their work - saying they're a source of "inspiration, reassurance and pride". 

Her Majesty has released a video to mark Armed Forces Day. 

Peter Bleach is chair of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment Association in Scarborough:

Here is the full schedule for the day, the timings are subject to change.

  • 11am Welcome by the Scarborough Town Crier
  • 12pm Richard Goodwin Air Display
  • 12:15pm Scarborough Standards march into the Formal Area. Chairman of North Yorkshire Council, Councillor Roberta Swiers reviews the Standards
  • 12:20pm Formal Opening Town Crier calls on all assembled to the opening of the event, the Yorkshire Volunteers Band marches into the Formal Area Formal opening and welcome by the Chairman of North Yorkshire Council The Yorkshire Volunteers Band Display Presentation of awards by Major General Michael Charlton-Weedy CBE DL Standards & The Yorkshire Volunteers Band march off and event officially begins
  • 1pm Scarborough Sea Cadet Continuity Drill Display Team in the formal area
  • 1:30pm The Starlings Aerobatic Team
  • 2pm 2497 Easingwold Squadron Royal Air Force Cadets Display of Banner Drill in the formal area
  • 2:15pm Titans Air Display Team
  • 2:30pm Yorkshire Corps of Drums Performance in the formal area
  • 3pm Scarborough Sea Cadet Band Performance in the formal area
  • 4pm RAF Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4
  • 4:20pm Standards, Veterans & Cadet Parade Steps off led by Queen’s Own Yeomanry and The Yorkshire Volunteers Band parade
  • 4:30pm Review of Parade at the Formal Area Parade Marshal to invite the Reviewing Officer, Major General Chris Callow CB OBE, with VIPs to review the parade Closing words by Major General Chris Callow CB OBE Prayers and blessings by Reverend Joe Kinsella
  • 4:45pm Closing Ceremony Exhortation by Matthew O’Brien, Chairman of the RBL Sunset Ceremony including The Yorkshire Volunteers Band Scarborough Sea Cadets lower the Armed Forces flag and present to Major General Chris Callow CB OBE Yorkshire Volunteer Band perform and conclude with the National Anthem “Three cheers for HM Armed Forces” led by Scarborough Town Crier
  • 4:55pm Parade marches off
  • 5pm Event Finishes
