Scarborough Dad to Run Marathon for Daughter

Sunday, 10 March 2024 06:00

By John Clayton with contribution from Michelle Sharp

A father from Scarborough has a very special reason to run the London Marathon.

Neil Jones, a devoted father of two, is lacing up his running shoes for a cause close to his heart. In an inspiring display of love and determination, Neil is gearing up to tackle the London Marathon in support of The National Autistic Society, motivated by his daughter's recent autism diagnosis.

Driven by a desire to raise awareness and foster acceptance for individuals who are neurodivergent or have learning disabilities, Neil's mission is clear: to champion a world where everyone is embraced for their unique strengths and courage. Through his marathon journey, he aims to shine a light on the resilience and tenacity displayed by his daughter and countless others facing similar challenges.

Grateful for the support and guidance provided by The National Autistic Society, Neil sees the marathon as an opportunity to give back and express his heartfelt gratitude. Having recently completed the Great North Run as part of his training, Neil is fully committed to preparing for this monumental challenge.

A family friend - Michelle Sharp knows that Neil is ready for this next challenge.

Reflecting on his motivation, Neil shares, "I know this challenge is big for me, but it pales in comparison to the daily hurdles my daughter faces. By supporting charities like The National Autistic Society, we can break down barriers and create a more inclusive world where everyone feels valued and supported."

To kickstart his fundraising efforts, Neil is hosting a Coffee Morning on Saturday 23rd March, from 9:30 - 11:30 AM at Cloughton Village Hall. With an array of delicious cakes and an exciting tombola, the event promises to be a heartwarming gathering for the community. Neil extends a warm invitation to all, welcoming support and donations for his marathon endeavour.

You can join Neil on his journey to make a difference and show your support at the upcoming Coffee Morning.
