The whole Scarborough College Senior School community come together for the first time in 2 years on Saturday.
At their annual Prize Giving Ceremony at Queen Street Methodist Central Hall all of the academic, sporting, music, drama and extra curricular achievements of pupils and staff were acknowledged and celebrated.
This included the Leavers of 2020-21 and the leavers of 2019-20, who missed out on their moment to shine during the Covid pandemic but were determined to return, albeit a year late.
Guest Speaker and former student of the College, Malcolm Grimston gave a meaningful, insightful and inspiring speech to all present, reinforcing both the necessity and benefits of working hard, but also for being brave and strong to grasp any opportunity that presents itself in the future, as when these doors are opened, you never know quite where it may lead.
Malcolm was also honoured as the 2020 OSA Alumni Award winner alongside Jason Liversidge, the 2021 OSA Alumni Award winner. Two very different characters and stories - both inspiring and thought provoking for very different reasons. Jason was unable to attend the ceremony but joined the school community in the evening at The OSA Ball, with over 350 guests, to receive his award in person.
In a post the college said:
"Through turbulent and challenging times, the school has continued to grow, thrive and survive and ensure that all its pupils have had as positive and interactive learning experience as possible. With exceptional IB Diploma results from both year groups and university destinations secured to top ranking universities worldwide, Scarborough College continues to offer a passport for life to all of its students and support both local and international students in a warm, sincere and compassionate way, showing what true Yorkshire Grit our staff, pupils and parents have developed, especially during these Covid times.
Congratulations to all at the College and thank you to Chairman of the Governors, Dr John Renshaw and Headmaster, Guy Emmett for steering us through these challenges and doing the best for every pupil and family associated with the College."
