With Scarborough Borough council ceasing to exist in 15 months time work is beginning to ensure the new replacement unitary authority is fully aware of the issues that affect the borough.
Andrew Rowe is the borough councils Housing manager he says the borough's housing issues are being highlighted in a new strategy which is currently being finalised.
Andrew says the Scarborough Borough has the highest demand for social housing in North Yorkshire.
The strategy has to be renewed in January, usually it would be a five year plan, but with the borough council set to be abolished in 15 months time, Housing Manager Andrew Rowe says the strategy is being used to make sure the replacement North Yorkshire wide unitary authority is fully aware of the unique challenges faced in the borough.
Andrew says the age of the housing stock in the borough is an issue and says the borough also has 50% of the county's second homes, putting more pressure on housing stock.
