Scarborough's MP says he will talk to the NHS about the problems with dental provision in the borough.
The {my}Dentist surgery in Eastfield is closing at the end of April and patients have been telling us they cant find alternative NHS treatment in the area.
MP Robert Goodwill says there is spare NHS budget for dental treatments in the Scarborough Borough. He says each area is allocated what are called Units of Dental Activity (UDA's) which allow dentists to claim payment from the NHS for providing treatment
Mr Goodwill says there are 35,000 spare units available in the area, but no dentists who want to claim them.
Mr Goodwill says he will speak to local NHS leaders about what can be done to attract more dentists to the area or persuade existing dentists to take on more NHS work.
He says the owner of the building used by [my]Dentist in Eastfield is looking for another dental practice to move in to the building and if that happens he will lobby the NHS to ensure that any new practice is given enough UDA's to enable NHS work can be undertaken.
