Scarborough Borough COVID Rate Continues to Fluctuate

Monday, 26 April 2021 10:15

By Carl Gavaghan, Local Democracy Reporter

Scarborough’s infection rate has risen back above the national average.

The borough’s Covid-19 infection rate per 100,000 people is now 27, up three on Friday and up four on its level a week ago.

The average rate for England has fallen to 25, below the level of Scarborough once again.

Scarborough’s rate does continue to be below the average for North Yorkshire, which stands at 32, though that is inflated by the rate in the Selby district which has shot up to 112.

Last week it was confirmed that more than two-thirds of Scarborough’s adult population have now received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Figures from the NHS and Public Health England showed that 67,285 people have had the jab out of an estimated population in the borough of 97,555 residents over the age of 16.

That puts the total at 69%.
