Mike Greene will be taking over as Managing Director at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
The Stockton-on Tees authority say that Mike Greene has been selected to follow in the footsteps of Julie Danks whose retirement after more than 30 years in local government, was announced earlier this year. The decision will be formally ratified by councillors at a Full Council meeting on Wednesday, July 20.
Mr Greene is currently the Chief Executive of Scarborough Borough Council and was formerly an Assistant Director at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council. He has also worked for councils in both West Yorkshire and the North West.
During his time at Scarborough, Mr Greene has led an ambitious regeneration and investment programme levering in millions of pounds worth of external funding to promote growth in the economy. He has also been at the forefront of negotiations on a devolution deal for York and North Yorkshire with Government and was the lead officer for economic growth in the North Yorkshire local government reorganisation.
Mr Green, 38, who is married with two young children, is looking forward to taking on his new role.
Mike said:
"I am thrilled to be joining the team at Stockton-on-Tees at this exciting time,"
"The Borough is such a special place - with proud and vibrant communities at its heart.
"The council has achieved so much, and I cannot wait to join the team of passionate and committed elected members and officers as well as work with partners and the community to make the Borough an even better place to live, visit, work and study."
Leader of Stockton Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said:
"We're delighted to announce this appointment and are looking forward to welcoming Mr Greene to Stockton-on-Tees Borough. He has the skills and drive we are looking for to continue our commitment to deliver first class services to our residents and businesses, develop our support for children and adults and lead the exciting plans we are progressing across our six towns."
It is expected that Mr Greene will take up his new role later this year, following completion of his notice period at Scarborough Borough Council.
Mike Greene, added:
“Given where we are on the journey towards a new single council for North Yorkshire, and this exciting opportunity being available now at Stockton-on-Tees council, I feel it is the right time for a new challenge.
“It was a difficult decision to take and I will be very sad to leave.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my time at the borough council over the past three years and I am so proud of everything the team has achieved.
“As I won’t be departing immediately, I will be working hard with elected members and colleagues to ensure a smooth handover and I remain committed to delivering our ambitious agenda for the borough.”
