Scarborough Athletic and Whitby Town started the game one place and one point apart in the league table, Boro one point ahead but Whitby with a game in hand.
The Blues took an early lead through the in-form Jacob Hazel to silence to home fans and sending the visiting supporters (many sheltering from the drizzle in the Adverset Stand) into delerium.
Boro equalised on 27 minutes through Luca Colville, later named Boro's Man Of The Match.
The visitors suffered a blow when Malik Dijksteel was shown a red card a few minutes before the break.
In the 2nd half, Scarborough put pressure on 10-men Whitby and Ryan Watson scored what would prove to be the winning goal from a free kick on 66 minutes.
Whitby had one or two chances but Scarborough looked comfortable in the 2nd half and held on for all three points.
Whitby's next match is a homne game against league leaders Matlock Town on Saturday. Scarborough's next game is an away trip to Lancaster City also on Saturday.
