Scarborough Athletic will get a new pitch at the end of the upcoming season and a new Stadium name with immediate effect.
The pitch was due to be replaced in 2027 but North Yorkshire Council have confirmed it will be replaced at the end of the 24-25 season.
Boro Chairman Trevor Bull says the playing surface has now had it's annual patching work completed after the start of the work was delayed.
The club says it has been continually working with the stadium owner “North Yorkshire Council” and the operator “Everyone Active” over a long period of time in regards to pitch management to ensure the standard remains fit for purpose.
They say:
"In practical terms this has involved a cycle of maintenance, repair, inspection and certification which we are pleased to confirm has again been carried out successfully in readiness for the new season.
Over the longer term, the lifespan of the current pitch meant it was originally scheduled for replacement in the summer of 2027.
We can now share with you that North Yorkshire Council have confirmed that the surface will be replaced and upgraded at the end of the 2024/25 season some two years ahead of schedule which will further support the Club in meeting it's aims and objectives."
Speaking before the announcement club Chairman Trevor Bull said patching work on the pitch had started later than usual this season due to the fact that if the club had been promoted they would have needed a full upgrade.
Boro started their pre-season campaign with a win at Bridlington on Saturday in the Dave Holland Memorial game, tonight the Seadogs are away at Tadcaster Albion and on Saturday they will play their first home game of the campaign as they face Selby Town at the newly named "Scarborough Sports Village" stadium.
The new name is a result of the previous naming rights deal with Flamingo Land coming to an end. In an update to supporters the club said:
"Since the stadium opened back in 2017, Flamingo Land and in particular Gordon Gibb have been incredibly helpful to our club over the period they have been the stadium sponsors and we are sincerely grateful for their generous support. The flexibility they have given to the support delivered through their agreement with Scarborough Borough Council has allowed us to be able to make the developments required to achieve the well appointed ground we have today.
The ongoing naming rights are now in the hands of the stadium owners North Yorkshire Council and they are actively seeking a future sponsorship partner. In the meantime we have agreed with their request that until any future sponsor is found, the stadium will be referred to as “The Scarborough Sports Village” in all communications and we have now registered that name with the League."
