Scarborough Athletic Fixtures Released

Scarborough Athletics' fixture list for the coming season has been revealed today.

They will start the season away at Peterborough Sports on August 5th, the first home game will be against Banbury United on August 12th.

Boro are spending their second season in National League North after their promotion the year before.

Manager Jono Greening says there are number of fixtures he is looking forward to

Boro narrowly missed out the play-offs last season after securing promotion the year before.

That promotion was at the expense of South Shields who have now won promotion themselves to national league north.

Manager Jono Greening says with full time side Scunthorpe also now in the league there are going to be some big games in this years fixtures.

Boro will face South Shields for the first time in an away fixture on August 19th and will also face Scunthorpe away from home on August 28th.

The Christmas fixtures will see Boro pitted against Darlington with the home fixture on Boxing Day and the away match on New Years Day.

Boro's league fixtures end with a home game against Alfreton town on April 20th 2024.

The league say preparing the fixtures is a mammoth task

"The process starts before the conclusion of the previous season with the first step in the process, the fixture schedule. This document is essentially a calendar where matchdays are plotted for the three divisions. It also contains key dates for the Premier League, EFL, FA Cup and FA Trophy.

Once the season has finished and the composition of each division is known, the League sends a fixture questionnaire to all clubs where they are asked a number of questions such as whether they would like to nominate certain days not to be at home.

Clubs are also asked to provide details such as their longest and shortest journeys and their preference for who they play over the Easter and Christmas periods – and any team who they wish to be scheduled opposite to.

When all requests have been gathered, they are sent to Glenn Thompson of Atos who are an IT company who run the fixture compiling software.

The League then holds a meeting with Atos and a representative from the Football Supporters Association to identify any issues with the compiled fixture list and ultimately finalise the schedule.

Aside from club requests, the League also have a responsibility to ensure clubs and fans are not disadvantaged by their fixtures. Things like local derbies and high-profile games are – where possible – scheduled on the best days possible.

Travel for midweek fixtures is also considered at length. Clubs and their fans don’t want to be travelling large distances for a midweek fixture. That being said, this can be unavoidable sometimes."
