Scarborough Armed Forces Day Road Closures Revealed

As the town prepares to host the national armed forces day event in June, details of planned road closures have been revealed.

Scarborough will host the national event on Saturday June 25th and is expected to see a massive influx of military personel and kit as well as thousands of spectators for the events which will include a Red Arrows display.

In it's latest residents newsletter the Borough Council says:

"Hosting the Armed Forces Day national event is a fantastic opportunity for Scarborough and will firmly put the Yorkshire coast on the map.
However, it is inevitable that there will be disruption.

We’ve got to think very carefully about the logistics of staging a huge event which could attract 100,000 people or more.

We need to ensure everyone can enjoy it safely and securely.

This means some roads will be closed, access to property and businesses will be restricted, and some vehicle movements will not be permitted.

If you live – or have a business - in the part of Scarborough that will be directly affected by the event the most, we’ll write to you with the details.

It will take time to set the event up and then take down various infrastructure so potential disruption will start in the days before 25 June and continue into the following week."

This is the current timetable of road and site closures, which are subject to change :

From 6am on Thursday 23 June (until 6pm on Sunday 26 June)

  • West Pier car park (all parking will be suspended but deliveries will be possible until midday on Friday 24 June)

From 6pm on Thursday 23 June (until 8am on Monday 27 June)

  • Royal Albert Drive from Albert Road (“Chain Hill”) to Marine Drive and the whole of Marine Drive

From 6am on Friday 24 June (until 10pm on Sunday 25 June)

  • Spa Drive and Scarborough Spa car park (all parking will be suspended but deliveries will still be possible until 6pm on Friday 24 June).
  • Sandside and Foreshore Road are both in the event zone and will be closed throughout but the exact timings of the closure have not yet been confirmed.  Deliveries will be allowed to businesses and homes until midday on Friday 24 June.
  • Any vehicle still in the event zone after the closure times will be removed (this includes vehicles displaying blue badges) and a charge will be made for recovery.
  • If you need your vehicle throughout the Armed Forces Day weekend, we suggest you move it to a car park outside the event zone and walk to/from it.

All times are to be confirmed and are subject to change.
