North Yorkshire Police are warning of the scam following the fire at the Bilsdale TV mast last month.
There's a warning that fraudsters are posing as TV engineers and offering to help local residents retune their TV's following the Bilsdale mast fire for a fee of £200.
North Yorkshire Police say
"If anyone knocks on your door to offer this service, do not let them into your home and do not give them any money.
Arqiva, the company which owns the Bilsdale mast, is offering an appointment service to help everyone access TV if their service has been affected by the mast fire back in August and we'll share details of this as soon as we have them.
If you make an appointment with Arqiva you will receive a unique reference number which the engineer visiting your home at the arranged time will be able to check with you.
Engineers will only be attending homes after making an appointment and will be wearing identification. Should anyone approach you at home with no appointment, do not let them into your home and call the police on 101 if you are concerned."
