One of the Yorkshire Coast's December traditions is taking on a new form this year.
Scarborough based Saint Catherine’s has launched a special version of its much-loved Santa Dash for 2020.
In previous years, hundreds of supporters have gathered in December to take part in a 5K or 10K run in aid of patient care.
However, with safety in mind and in accordance with COVID guidelines, it will not be possible to hold a group event this year.
Instead, Saint Catherine’s is asking people to take part in their own Santa Dash, in smaller groups of friends or family, on any day this December. Group sizes must stay within the current government guidance at the time.
Participants can go for the traditional distances or 5K or 10K, or pick their own distance, covering a route of their own choice – running, walking or even cycling!
Registration is free and Santa suits will be available online at www.saintcatherines.org.uk/online-shop/ in adult and children’s sizes, priced at £5. Fancy dress is encouraged, but is optional.
Susan Stephenson, communications and marketing manager at Saint Catherine’s, said:
“We have had brilliant support in the past with our Santa Dash and we hope that people will join us this December to have fun and raise much-needed funds. This year is different as we can’t all get together, but we will still be together in spirit.
“Whether you are a keen runner, or more of a strolling Santa, the key thing to remember this year is that it’s your dash, your day, your way.”
Susan explains how the Santa Dash will work...
In addition on the weekend of the 12th and 13th of December This is the Coast will be running "The Santa Dash Weekend" you can send in your pictures, videos and audio clips of you and your merry band of socially distanced Santa's doing your Santa dash to be seen online and heard on the radio.
By raising funds for Saint Catherine’s this Christmas, you can make a real difference to the lives of local people who are receiving end-of-life care. For example:
- £20 could pay for an in-patient’s meals and refreshments for Christmas Day
- £50 could pay for a series of therapy sessions for a patient
- £200 could pay for our Hospice at Home team to visit four patients in their homes
- £500 could pay for a stay in the hospice over Christmas.
