A week long road safety campaign has lead to a number of arrests.
North Yorkshire police say their campaign around UN Global Road Safety Week has lead to a number of arrests in the county including an drink drive arrest in Robin Hood's Bay.
Officers say :
"We got reports of a minor collision involving a possible drink driver in Robin Hood's Bay. A quick-thinking member of the public tried to persuade the driver to hand over his keys.
We arrived a few minutes later and breath-tested the driver. He blew almost FOUR TIMES the legal limit.
He was arrested within 12 minutes of the report coming in, taken into custody and charged with drink driving. He has an appointment with magistrates in Scarborough next month. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.
On the same day in the same area, we also dealt with a driver who failed to stop for police. When we did catch up with him, he tested positive for cocaine and his vehicle was unroadworthy due to two bald tyres (pictured). Also arrested and taken into custody."
The force say it's been a busy week on the county's roads during their week of targeted road safety deployments which has seen action taken in every district of North Yorkshire covering a range of issues :
- We've seized 18 uninsured and untaxed vehicles, including vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers.
- We've arrested 19 people as a direct result of vehicle stops, on suspicion of everything from vehicle theft, to drug possession, to being wanted on warrant, to serious immigration offences.
- Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams kept children safe by enforcing traffic laws outside schools, including parking on yellow zigzags, mobile phone use and seatbelt offences (pictured here in Harrogate district).
- We deployed units and safety camera staff to communities across North Yorkshire. We've also covered main roads, where we've dealt with speeds of up to 108mph.
- We took our BikeSafe stand to Oliver's Mount Spring Cup at the weekend to chat to bikers about our BikeSafe workshops.
